Closing Your Eyes Isn’t Enough: The Hidden Medicine of Restful Sleep
I woke up today feeling refreshed, a rare sensation after two weeks of finally getting more than five hours of sleep. It’s been glorious.
Were these five-hour nights the result of restless tossing and turning? Not quite. These short nights of sleep were entirely self-inflicted, thanks to my love for Latin dancing which cut into my precious eight-hour goal, especially on school nights.
After two weeks of self-sabotaging my sleep for the love of dance, I made my beauty rest a priority. Not only by nourishing my skin by drinking more water but also by being in bed before ten every night.
Sleep has always been something I’ve considered myself good at. But the truth is, that sleep is subjective. Just because we close our eyes doesn’t mean we’re sleeping well, does it?
Over the years, I’ve worked with many clients who’ve come to me with various struggles, yet they rarely mentioned sleeping well as part of their concerns. Yet, after our healing sessions together, sleeping well seemed to resolve itself, almost as a side effect.
